Meet Peter

The artist behind vivid watercolor worlds that invite you to look closer and just imagine.

Peter is a contemporary watercolor artist known for bold color, expressive storytelling, and original works filled with character, movement, and imagination. From weathered cowboys and wandering wildlife to aspens glowing in impossible color, his paintings invite viewers into a world where observation gives way to possibility.

A Different Kind of Watercolor

Peter paints with a carefully limited palette of seven colors, often working in a single wash that allows the movement of the watercolor to remain visible in the finished piece. Rather than treating watercolor as fragile or restrained, he pushes the medium toward bold color, scale, and immediacy.

The result is work that feels alive and unexpected. His paintings are not quiet studies. They are invitations into vivid, imaginative worlds shaped by color, character, and story.

Watercolor Without Glass

What sets Peter’s work apart is not only the imagery, but the way it is presented.

Over the course of three years, Peter developed a custom process that allows his large-scale watercolor originals to be mounted on wood and sealed with archival beeswax resin. This eliminates the need for glass and gives each painting a physical presence rarely associated with watercolor.

The result is a warm, tactile surface that invites a more direct connection with the art, allowing collectors to experience the texture, scale, and movement of the painting without the barrier of glass.

Story, Motion, and Imagination

Storytelling plays a central role in Peter’s work. Inspired by the American West, old films, wildlife, music, memory, and the people around him, his paintings often feel as though they exist in the charged moment just before or just after something happens.

A rider may be moving toward a story we cannot yet see. An animal may seem ready to turn, speak, or step forward. An aspen grove may become less about place and more about rhythm, color, and feeling.

Peter paints not simply how something looks, but how it feels. His subjects are chosen for their presence, personality, and emotional pull, becoming part of vivid watercolor worlds shaped by story, movement, and imagination.

Peter’s work invites viewers to look a little longer, bring their own imagination into the scene, and just imagine what comes next.

Where the Journey Began

A pivotal influence in Peter’s artistic life has been Deb, his wife, who challenged him in 1986 to paint a piece they admired but could not afford. That painting still hangs in his Arizona studio today, a reminder that imagination often begins with someone who believes you can create what you cannot yet see.

Her encouragement, honesty, and unwavering support continue to shape both his creative life and the fearless spirit behind his work.
